Cleary does the best translations
A little deep but does have some things that I can get into. A good book.
INTERETING READ
I'm a fan of Thomas Cleary's translations of ancient Taoist and Buddhist texts, but to call this "a Taoist handbook" is misleading. This is a collection of obscure sages speaking in oblique metaphors about such esoteric topics as metaphysical alchemy and the basic nature of Tao. The former doesn't interest me at all and the latter is, well, basic. I mean, once you understand what the Tao is, there's no need to keep trying to describe it, right? You either get it or you don't. This book is not the "how to" that the word "handbook" would seem to indicate. Better you should pick up Cleary's _Taoist Meditation_ or _The Way of the World_. Both of those are far superior, in my opinion, and much more illuminating.
This book cleared out a lot of misunderstanding. Highly recommended if you are interested in but confused about internal alchemy.
