Firstly, I am completely new to Wicca. This book was actually recommended to me by several people who practice Wicca since I live in a rural area and really have to learn this religion by myself. So far, I have only read the first few sections but find myself engulfed already and in love!I can not speak for the authenticity of the writing, because I am so new, there is no way for me to know if this book is a good place to start. But from reading other reviews and listening to those who recommended it to me, I am confident this was a good purchase.I can however at least speak on the condition of the book I received. It arrived very quickly and in wonderful condition (pictures included in my review). The print is great and the book is definitely brand new. I was very happy this book included the author's own personal Book of Shadows. From what I understand, you should make your own Book of Shadows to fit your own needs/beliefs, but it is really helpful to have an example to get an idea of how you will want yours to be.I can not wait to continue reading this book. I most likely will update my review after I finish to add more details if I feel it necessary.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, then it kept popping up all around me. I think it's very important simply cause there is a strong emphasis on being a part of a coven in most other books. I still don't feel safe coming out into the real world and feel like people would laugh at me for calling myself a Witch. I'm grateful for this book, it makes me feel safe.

This book's first chapter explains Wicca better than anything I have ever read. It would be a great gift for someone who didn't understand what Wicca truly was, or as just a gift to those interested! This book is very "readable", I didn't have any trouble with boring parts. I bought it used, but it looks and reads fine.This would not be what you're looking for if you want a "magic" or "spell" book. This book isn't for Hogwarts, it's for the nature friendly free spirits who want to understand and relate to the wiccan way of life.

Scott Cunningham is a genius when it comes to writing and explaining Wicca. He writes in an easy to read manner and makes complicated ideas clear. He starts by explaining Wicca's background and brings us into what Wicca is today and how we fit in as solitary practitioners. He takes us through all the important aspects of Wicca, emphasizing the main laws and introducing us to guidelines for proper conduct of a Witch.This book includes careful instruction regarding the creating of energy; magic and spells; rituals; making the circle; drawing the quarters and invoking the God and Goddess. It has many spells and rituals laid out with step by step instructions and beautiful prayers which you can use in your own rituals.This is a book that I keep in my library and refer to often. If you are a solitary Wiccan, or just interested, then this is a must have book.

It's a great beginner's guide and will leave you wanting more. After you read this you need to get his other publications. Cunningham lays out the foundation and inspires. This book includes a book of shadows, some herb listing, and all the basics of modern Wicca. It's a classic. I've become a huge fan, and this book was the start. May he rest in peace.

Rabbi Dr. Sharon Shalom made aliyah to Israel on his own in 1982 at the age of eight under Operation Bat Galim, operated by the Mossad and the IDF commandos. Rabbi Sharon Shalom received his PhD in Jewish philosophy from Bar-Ilan University and his rabbinic ordination from Yeshivat Har Etzion in Gush Etzion. Today he serves as rabbi of Congregation Kedoshei Yisrael in Kiryat Gat. He currently serves as a lecturer at Orot Yisrael College in Elkanah and at Bar-Ilan University. Dr. Shalom lives with his wife, Avital, and their five children in Kiryat Gat.

This book is an invaluable resource. As far as I know, it's the only one of its kind, so how fortunate that its contents have been meticulously remembered, researched and expressed by its Ethiopian-Israeli rabbi/professor author, who himself took on the sizable risks to get to Israel from Ethiopia as a child. And how nice that it is so readable. Every Jewish home's book collection is now incomplete without it, and any home at all should include it as a historical record of what can happen when a heretofore isolated segment of a religion leaps with both feet into modern time and space, as thousands of Ethiopian Jews did when they took the dangerous trek to the life-altering airplane flights offered by Israel, and moved to Israel en masse in several astounding operations over a period of years. The long-established laws and traditions they followed before they came have been preserved in this book -- including both those that have become part of Israeli life, and the many others which, after study, struggle and some sense of loss, have melted into the practices outside of Ethiopia. Historical, heartfelt, exceedingly readable. Highly recommended.

It was a most interesting and fun read and i certainly recommend it to anyone who has a passional for Jewish identity and Halakha.

Excellent book using Mrs. Russell Sage's life as the pivot point for discussing much broader topics. The academic jargon is annoying at times, but that's a pet peeve of mine.
