Absolutely worthless in planning a trip along Route 66 unless you only want to know about the major cities along the route. I bought this book just as it was released so there were no previous reviews. I like most Lonely Planet books and have probably bought 100 of them in the past 25 years. This is the worst one I've bought. It is very superficial and minimally useful for planning a trip (which I'm doing now) along Route 66 and I certainly won't waste the space to take it with me. In reality, it is mainly a book that describes the larger cities along the route (Chicago, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Santa Fe, Flagstaff, LA) with a bit of information about the other sites along the route. I'll go over the Arizona information as an example. The Arizona chapter consists of a description of Flagstaff and the surrounding areas along with an inset about the Grand Canyon. A total of 10 pages in the Arizona chapter! And almost only about Flagstaff. And much of that is devoted to worthless things like the fact that there is a Macy's and a Whole Food market in Flagstaff. Not likely to be of much interest for those looking for a Route 66 "experience." Granted, there is the additional section with 4 pages for Arizona at the beginning but this is still a very superficial description of the highlights of the route. The author could have written this highlight section in an hour from the internet without having been anywhere neat the route. I would strongly suggest people not bother with this book. I'm sure there are much better options.

Not very helpful. Spend your money on a different guide. Did not have any new information than many of the other and much better guides out there and limited information on many Route 66 specific destinations/sights.

This was a fabulous little book about stoppingbpoints along the old Route 66

This was not worth the price not one of lonely planets better books.

Has very good options on traveling, and many places to stop and see

Kicking around the idea of doing the central segment of US Route 66 perhaps this August 2018 - just me and the Cooper S - should be great fun!

When my family found out they told me that behavor was bad and i should act like a gentleman because that is how you get "good women" (they conditioned me to be mode two) As a result i hid my true self and had ZERO SUCCESS with women thru high school and college. The ones that showed me interest first eventually lost it because i didn't break free from the mode 2 behavior. After a while I became mode 4 and hated every chick I came across.......and then i read this book. I now know that i should have always been my true self no matter who disapproved of me. I really don't know if the advice Mr. Currie espouses here works for EVERYBODY but I guess we can all try... Other people in his circles espouse the " cocky but funny " approach, which has worked for me LIKE CRAZY, but I can see this approach working for me if I was dressed to the nines, smelled like a million dollars, my breath was the epitome of a fresh ocean breeze, my hair was perfectly slicked back and the object of my lust was the hottest woman in the room... and I would go after her with the vengeance of a Great white shark going after the biggest, most meatiest tuna in the school... the advice in this book and the other two that follow is absolutely scandalous. Pick this book up, it's worth the read and if it works for you MAJOR PROPS, MORE POWER TO YOU!

There is no online access code for the program that goes with this book! the book itself as a stand alone was okay, but taking this for a class, which I did, I nearly had to spend an extra 130$ for a program access code since there was no bundle on Amazon!

If I could give zero stars I would. I received it saying it came with an access code but it turns out it was used and the access codes can only be used once so it was no help to me at all so now I have to pay for another stupid access code and my class started yesterday.

This book is useless to me as there is no access code for this book. I will be returning.

Not worth getting, unless you need it for reference. Does not come with active card.

It resulted in a world of beauty no one thought possible. It was so vivid, stylish, hilarious and technically good, even critics with little interest in perfume considered it one of the best books of the year.Perfumes The Guide 2018 is a different approach that covers all kinds of fragrances, but puts even more emphasis on niche and artisan perfumes. Like the first book, its substantial, extremely easy to read and highly entertaining, .but for many people this book is a great assist to those attempting to understand and define the genuinely worthwhile creations. Perfumery has changed radically. It's mind-blowing. Many of today's fragrances have to be smelled to be believed, and to generate context. The book focuses, not upon what is found at Neiman Marcus, (etc etc), with their corporate, mass consciousness, profit generating agendas, but rather the wave of perfumes that represent craftsmanship and art (as was centuries ago). That sometimes go to great lengths for the ingredients (and sometimes don't) to develop something of beauty. The pioneers, scientists, explorers, who are often more interested in what they can find, and combine, and present.At a time when so many people are simply looking to take your money, Perfumes The Guide 2018 is more relevant than ever. Luxury may have lost its luster, but this book will help you find the good stuff.

I am well familiar with the earlier edition (Perfumes: The A-Z Guide) and frequently reread snippets of it.The rave points: 1) all-new material. No rehashes of fragrances reviewed in the earlier edition. 2) enjoyable prose. I'm still not sure whether I enjoy the rhapsodies or the pans best, because each type of review is worth reading. 3) learning. Dr. Turin's understanding of perfume structure is pretty much beyond me (and I'm not sure I care all that much), but I always learn something from reading his comments. 4) discovering something new to smell. Several of the niche/independent companies mentioned in reviews in this edition were previously unknown to me, and I'm enjoying getting to know their fragrances. 5) entertaining. It's always fun to disagree with a review and snort loudly and disparage the authors' parentage, etc., while impatiently swiping the Kindle page. (Twilly gets 5 stars? PUHLEASE. It's a chemical disaster, with not only that flat chalky baby-aspirin orange note, but also the eye-stabbing lab-created jasmine thing completely overwhelming the ginger and tuberose.)The quibbles: 1) not nearly as comprehensive as I'd expected. I get it, this is all new, but there are frequently only a few fragrances reviewed from a prolific line. Samples of some lines mentioned are unobtainable by me in the U.S., even in this age of online orders. And some prominent indie/niche lines aren't reviewed at all. Many of this books reviews are on scents I can find in a department store, such as, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Kilian, Issey Miyake, Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, Estee Lauder, Michael Kors. Where are the reviews for Clive Christian, D.S. & Durga, Stephane Humbert Lucas 777, Profumum Roma, or Mona Di Orio…This book is less scent review and more dime-store romance novel. If I wanted to read somebody else’s’ non-descript, “bad writing” I would just read the blog posts from Fragnatica, again, free.

Al-Baz states that her experience is typical to many Saudi women and is also comparable to abuse women suffer world-wide. Al-Baz insists she loves her country, Saudi Arabia and her religion, Islam, and that her book is in no way meant to disparage either.Following rebellious teen years and a divorce, Rania Al-Baz becomes the newscaster on Channel 1 News. Wearing only a headscarf, she becomes the darling and pride of her nation; many suitors follow. One suitor in particular, an African singer, Rachid catches Rania’s attention. In spite of her parents’ opposition, following a whirlwind romance, the author marries Rashid. Not long after, she realizes her mistake.The memoir is well written and reads quickly.

This woman endured horrible abuse which almost killed her. But rather than speak negatively about her country or religion, she chooses to speak about the need for legal changes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where this occurred. She clearly loves her country and religion (which of course does not condone this type of violence). Ms Al-Baz also shows a very courageous spirit as she recovers and speaks out against all violence women are subjected to.

The author's narration of the position of women in Saudi Arabia, their fate in the hands of the husbands are phenomenon that we must understand. I learned from reading this book, Saudi Arabia is a place that men have not learned to accept women as their partners, as a full minded human beings and not a possession of property. I enjoyed reading this book.

This is definitely a "page turner." I cannot imagine human beings in any culture treating prisoners the way these women were treated. As I read this true story, I hurt along with the women. She were tortured mentally and physically beyond anything you could imagine. The women were raped and sodomized in front of groups of prisoners and in many disgusting ways. Food and water was held from them for days at a time. She never did not know why she was imprisoned from the beginning, but felt certain her husband was in on the plot to abuse her.It seems that many men have no respect for women in their culture. They apparently turn ugly in the flash of a minute. They are con artist of the highest order. Even in marriage they are scheming and planning ways to manipulate their wife only to satisfy their own needs. They take the freedom to come and go from home without any explanation of their whereabouts.The only way I could finish the book was knowing that the woman had survived. I do know that she was strong, and with the help of a fellow woman prisoner was able to save her own life.

This is a book you won't easily forget. The author clearly portrays the brutality she experienced and how that drove her to become a spokesperson against this form on abuse. It's a true story, but reads as easily as a novel.
