This is a book of whats but not hows or more importantly, whys. It's a glorified glossary design book with quotes.I always try to learn others' processes to better my understanding of approaches, thinking, etc., and I had apprehensions about this book despite the positive reviews.This is probably the first book ever purchased I wanted to return within 5 minutes of reading. It's also the first book I've had to leave a negative/any review.There's no substance to the chapters, just lists of key terms relevant to the cycle of the brand strategy process. The main content of the book is material pulled from outside sources rather the author, and quotes to supplement the dictionary-esque copy in the book.For example, in "Process: conducting research" - "Clarify vision, strategies, goals, and values" — how? What's the actual process to clarify strategy?For those looking to add a resource about brand strategy, especially those new to the subject, you'll be better off using Google than this book.

Bought it for a class and actually had to read it. Doesn't go into as much detail as I think it should. Just skims the surface and points out major issues and things you should be doing to brand a business or person. Has several pages with lists of ideas (for example; touchpoints) Good for a beginner/class but for someone really wanting to get into the deep end of branding I would look for something else. Layout is simple and easy to understand.

This book is incredibly comprehensive and visually engaging. I think it's a "must" for both students and professionals. An incredible tool for the aspiring brand professional, small business or really any person or entity working to create a plan around branding and logo identity.

I’m a design student so I do value a beautifully designed book, which this is. However, I found it lacking in detailed information and felt like I wasn’t learning much from it so I returned it after a few days.

This book is amazing, though it's very more geard to a rebranding of large corporations not how to open a small mom and pop store are product.Think it's a bit out dated. Can't wait for the next edition.

I was forced to give this 1 star by the rating system, but it should receive a "0" - totally incomprehensible book! The language & grammar is so poor, extremely poorly translated! Totally wrong terminology, run on sentences composed of strings of horrendous grammer - incomprehensible! Amazon should refund everyone who purchased this book and REMOVE IT from the product list-seriously!!! It is criminal to sell this book!

I am a new hockey fan who wants to understand the game and its rules. This book is so full of grammatical errors that it is very annoying to read. I gave up about 1/3 of the way through. Reads like a poorly translated foreign language book. Should have read the reviews!

It looks like the editor did not take time to properly edit or translate the copy. Most of the text describes soccer instead.

I threw it in the garbage. Read enough to know it was very poorly written. Looked as though it had been translated into English by someone without a good understanding of English. The information was less than useful. Unfortunately I had to give it one star.

Not happy with it....as an American would have liked the measurements done in inches..feet...yards

This book should be rated -zero starts since it is absolutely worthless. Poorly written and bears little relationship to NHL Hockey information that most would want to read about. Amazon should remove this product from inventory.

This was a gift for a friend who wanted to learn more about hockey. She says it's useful.

I am russian and I am the first one to review this very good book on some tragic history of Russian Innovation. Yes, all what is Graham wrote on our history of technology review is correct and very important to the history of science and technology in my country. To foreign reader the book has very good overview of everything russians did for whole humanity.However, discussion into why russia is always fail to reap all benefits of our innovations is somehow not finished. Graham lists all barriers which are very universal but falls short of explaining why stalinskaya sharashka (RnD center in Gulag) is far more effective in creating significant innovation than anything now in Russia or abroad. US had Bell Labs, Russia had sharashka. What was more effective in discussion, in my opinion.The deduction on key factor for innovation is protest movement in Russia 2012-2013 is totally incorrect, as majority of intelligentsia here as well as creative class is far from confrontatin from state and power and prefer to collaborate but not oppose. The fact that this movement is significantly less now without any change to innovation activity - just proves that protest movement has nothing to do with russian chances to improve innovation ecosystem. Again, my personal view that solid education in STEM and technology enterprenership culture - key things to overtake this centure long curse

I found it an absolute pleasure to read Loren Graham's new book, Lonely Ideas. As described in the product description, Graham asks a seemingly simple, but fundamental question that has been in the back of the minds of many of us who have been traveling to the former USSR for decades: Why is it that a country, historically so rich in intellectual, scientific and artistic talent can't seem to bring much to market? "How does one explain the pattern of impressive technological invention in Russia followed, again and again, by failure to develop and sustain that invention as a true innovation?""No other country in the world," Graham writes, "displays this pattern of intellectual and artistic excellence and technological weakness to the same degree as Russia."In a simple, straightforward and conversational style, Graham examines a range of factors -- attitudinal, economic, legal, organizational, political and general societal issues, including corruption and crime -- that both impede innovation in Russia, and raise hopes for the future. As both a chemical engineer and Russian historian by training -- who has been traveling to, and working in Russia since the early 1960s -- he draws on his own and others' extensive academic research, including a wealth of innovative surveys and other sociological research carried out in both Russia and the US. But even more interesting are his own incisive personal observations from over 5 decades of discussions w/ friends, scientific colleagues and officials of all stripes, and from his own participation in US and Soviet/ Russian joint projects.Graham correctly notes that ultimately, the problem is not a scientific or technological one, but a societal one. His book, then, ultimately becomes a fascinating journey not only through the world of science, technology and innovation, but through the heart of Russian society as a whole. It has very interesting information for those who are interested in history of Russian science. To my shame I knew very little about Igor Sikorski and never new about Pavel Yablochkov. This was the first time I read about significant contribution of Russian scientists to development of genetics and computers - the areas, which are not the strongest parts of our science nowadays.I agree with the most of the problems, hindering implementation of scientific breakthroughs, with some small comments:- The social factors are mostly obsolete now. The registration system (propiska) is no more than inconvenience, which is quite easy to avoid. The low mobility of people is a bigger problem and it is caused mostly by attitudinal reasons. The mobility which exists is afflicted by the great centralization and development imbalance as most of the migration flows are directed to Moscow/St. Petersburg and to few other successful regions.- The legal problems of innovation business are much wider than patent rights or crime situation. The quality of law enforcement and judiciary system is traditionally low in Russia and property rights are hardly protected. These problems haunts all kinds of businesses, not only innovative ones.The last chapter of the book is the least clear one, but the problem it describes is the difficult indeed. The Skolkovo and ROSNANO failed, because they tried to solve wrong problems. The rise of middle class was short and bore no fruits. Now Russian economy is starting to decline, the internet business is under state attack and the government doesn't have even mid-term economic strategy. How do we get off this hook? That question deserves another dedicated book :)

It's an interesting read, and I did learn a lot in a general sense; but I wanted a quick reference to common mj pests and specific advice on how to get rid of them. Rosenthal gives us a very nice entomology lesson, and does have some tables listing the info I was after. Unfortunately, the structure of the book is more geared to Ed's passionate interest in the bugs themselves, and he really does not provide an easy-to-use reference for those who are just trying to raise a plant or two for personal use. I'd like to see the book reformatted, with the entomology lessons in the front section and the reference tables and photographs in a dedicated section in the back.

Have always liked Ed's books, but this one was a waste of my money. Covers very few pests and diseases and it's hard to find specific info. It's one of my newer books, but already sits at the bottom of the pile. Wouldn't buy again.

Ed Rosenthal is well known and respected when it comes to growing cannabis so I did not hesitate to get this book. While it has some good and useful info in it, it also has some stuff which is incredibly wrong. The pictures for Tobacco Mosaic Virus are VERY clearly pictures of plants infested with Hemp Russet Mites (as seen in the included picture). Anyone who has tried to diagnose russet mites knows that a very common mistake "master growers" make is to call it TMV. As russet mites are quickly becoming the scourge of cannabis, this mistake is a big one and is unexcusable for someone as trusted as Ed. This is pest and disease ID 101. TMV is pretty much impossible to confirm without a lab test. Also, the steps for preventing it's transmission in plants were incorrect as well.

I was very happy that he really digs into the subject at hand in detail with nice color photos and really covers the problems and how to prevent them, I've read other books on the subject but I really felt like he went above everyone else. I walked away really knowing more than I did when I went into reading it I find myself making changes to my garden area because of what I've learned here.

It's a great book. A friend loaned me his, so I ordered it. It's full of helpful information about keeping any greenhouse or garden healthy, with focus being a cannabis crop. It would be useful for any greenhouse situation, regardless what is being grown.
