I suppose this book would've been more appreciated had we not also had Fodor's guide. Since we found Fodor's to be better, we mostly used this book to add a second opinion for resturants. What was good about this book was that it named A LOT of places in Puerto Rico so you we had no shortage of suggestions for places to eat, etc, and it had a light, entertaining style. I suppose it was better than Fodor's for the variety suggestions (and Fodor's seemed to prefer expensive places that we found to be so boring compared to the cheap local eateries). What was bad was that the stream-of-conciousness writing in "Beaten Path" didn't seem very studious in comparison, so it was harder to determine whether we wanted to follow it, or not. Rather than a few sentences, it seemed like each place got 1 adjective before the author moved on to something else.

Good and interesting facts. This one was worth it.

After reading this book it gave me an inside of places most needing to visit. Instead of driving all around the island in search of places to explore, the book gave me ideas and a map of places that contain fabulous already explores revenues. The reading was great and so were the details.

We visited Puerto Rico 20 years ago, and used "Off the Beaten Path" to guide us around the island. It was fabulous. This was a very quick read. It was witty, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the comments. Unfortunately, a lot of the "jokes" were reused over and over and over again, and by the end, I was getting bored. While Bill did make fun of both democrats and republicans, obviously he went harder at Bush, some true, some questionable. The funniest thing I found about the book was the amount of blank space used to make the book bigger. All I could think about was when Bill Maher was on Family Guy, bashing Bryan's book because it had the blank pages in the middle. Not exactly the same, but still funny to me. All in all, decent book - good, quick read. Definitely not the best book I've ever read, but not the worst either. Worth the $2.99 I paid, but not worth any more than that to me.

"Musings" is the appropriate word here. Lots of wit, but pretty typical for Maher. It's fun, relaxing, and a great way to decompress before turning in. But, my guts thinks this book is more a tribute to Maher's writing staff . I paid just a few bucks for the book (plus shipping)......That was just about right.

If you think Bill Maher is funny, you'll certainly find this book funny. I laughed out loud many times. But please note that this book was written in 2004/2005. Bush was still in office and Brittney Spears was married and expecting her second kid - pre-meltdown. So some of the jokes and commentary are very dated. And others refer to events that I just don't recall - it's been 6-7 years, and I don't remember every little scandal that made the news back then. But for 2.99 for the Kindle edition, it was a quick and fun read, worth the price. Also note that the pictures don't translate well into Kindle - they are too dark and small to really see.

Bill Maher has been consistantly a comic genius. Sardonic,ironic, pessimistic, yet hopeful, very perceptive, usually so correct in how he describes his observations, but more importantly, very very funny. Condition was serviceable, and no problems with item ordered

If you're a liberal and just plain like smart comedy, Bill is your guy and so is your book! I've been watching his shows since the 90's and this book was just as good as one! Seriously, several laugh out loud moments!

I love Bill Maher for telling it like it is... and for taking to task people who don't on both sides of the fence. Politicians count on the 47% to keep on being stupid and ignorant, and that's why political humor is funny to the other 53%! Because some of us aren't ignorant, we vote, we debate ideas, and we dislike it when MORONS play up to the dumb side of Americans. It offends us! Thanks to Bill, we still have intelligence in America! And it's ok to be smart! Once upon a time, that was what you hoped for in the next generation! For your kids to go to college, and become smart, productive, and progressive members of society!

In General I find nothing he has to say to be other than what should be clear to all thinking people. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the way the general public " as we are lead to believe " think. Doesn't say much for the general public. I don't think that the mass media really wants a thoughtfull public.

This is a great glimpse of how Bill Maher sees the world. I was entertained, informed, and awed. I never miss Bill's Friday night feast of laughter, argument and information. I don't understand how he and Miss Republican, I call her the blond, rich, witch, can be in the same room together. They are at least from Pluto and back apart. (yes, I know about Pluto)

My boy is 4,5. I gave him the book as a present whrn he was 3. He loved the different pictures and now as he is in the “I am telling YOU a story”, he grabs it every might, he selects a hero and then we go through the book to figure out where is thr cat, who lost the wallet and another 1000 items that would not cross my mind to say.You can count, do forms, learn the colors, various jobs, etc. It’s a lovely book for the small ones as it allows them to tell the story with their own words

This is the best kids book we own. It is so endlessly entertaining. Way better than a Waldo or I Spy book. The things the book tells you to find are just the tip of the iceberg. You can follow the changes in the town and lives of all the characters and animals throught the four seasons. There is always something new to notice and find. It gets better the more you read it. My three year old son loves this book. There is a small museum scene with a painting of a nude woman in it, but if that bothers you then it's easy to draw a swimsuit on her.

Excellent book. My daughter got this at her 2nd birthday and still loves it 14 months later. I think she will always love it since there is just so much to see. This book has so many stories to follow through the seasons. There are main characters as well as side characters whose stories might only last one season. Meticulous detail, multicultural, I love the nuns who appear in the pages-they are always having fun. And the St. Martin's Day lantern festival in the autumn chapter is an excellent end to the book as well as such an interesting European element.

This is a wonderful book and when it’s on my son’s bedside table we might read it nightly for a week. Some of the “story lines” are so subtle that after multiple looks at he book you will find yourself paging back and forth to see how a storybook plays out. It’s a picture book but there are stories that wend their way through all of the pages or all of the seasons.I enjoy going through this book as much as my five-year old son does. It also makes me nostalgic for Germany, where I lived over twenty years ago, and is a neat way to show my son the small and large differences in landscape, daily life, buildings, and habitats of another country and culture.My only complaint is that after about two months of reading it one or two nights a week, some of the pages are coming loose from the binding. Because we’ve had many other books on heavy rotation in our household without similar problems, I’m disappointed this one isn’t so durable.

Many reviewers have pointed out that something new is observed each time -- that's an understatement.We read the Winter section (1/4 of the book) this morning and spent 45 minutes on it, looking in windows for characters we've not yet met, combing over the landscape to find animals we've not yet noticed. I purchased this book for my sons when I heard it recommended on an NPR show a few years ago. My sons were 5 and 9 at the time. I must say, though, that I have ended up enjoying it as much if not more than they. This is a picture book but not like any picture book your toddler ever had. It is intriguing to children and adults alike. The book follows a town through the four seasons. The stories told through the pictures and seasons are simply delightful. The detail of the pictures is intriguing. You can "read" it many times and still not find all the individual "stories" being told through the pages.

I'm a mom and an ESOL teacher, and to top all those reviews that talk about illustrations and details, here's my opinion:- so many unusual items! --> kids learn new words and extend their vocab.Great for second language acquisition too, so ESL/EFL/ESOL teachers and teachers of ANY languages, get them ASAP :)- so many different places! --> kids will review their own experience and have real events in their heads to back the pictures up with.Refer to your own zoo trips or museum visits and you'll see their eyes light up.- so many play ideas! --> it doesn't stop here.Younger kids: use cardboard and draw some items (veggies, animals, clothes etc), cut the out and ask your kid to matchOlder kids: make them draw some items and play "who's faster?" together

This book is one of those that you will save long after your children have grown. It becomes a family classic and you pass it down. Generous, over-sized book -- the stories of the various characters told through illustrations is just such a high quality. The first time my then-2 and then-4 year old children looked at this book, they literally sat together for 45 minutes just LOOKING and oooohing and aaaahing.Almost 2 years later, they still enjoy taking a good, long, look at this book periodically, and I enjoy doing it with them. Well done, all around and I'd buy it many times over.For those looking for something to read with kids - note there is very little text in this book. The book is divided into the seasons with a section intro-page prompting you to see what happens to certain characters in that section. I liken it to a look n' find but with a story line and of beyond higher quality.

Adi Rome has a BA in Computer Science from Tel Aviv University. After a spell in teaching, she worked in Quality Assurance, moving to analysis, design and implementation of embedded systems, before joining Symbian in 2004. As the multimedia guru within the Developer Services team she provides technical consultancy across all areas of Symbian OS, with special emphasis on hardware. Adi was responsible for communicating Symbian's roadmap to silicon and multimedia partners, and also led Symbian's component validation program. Away from technical work Adi has been involved in setting up the Symbian China partner-consulting organization and is in much demand for her presentation skills, having given sessions at a wide range of partner and industry events, including 3GSM World Congress. Mark Wilcox has been playing with computers since his dad bought a ZX81 when he was four. He wrote his first multimedia application (a three room text adventure with sound effects!) on an Acorn Electron when he was seven. Mark has a Masters degree in Mathematics,  following this up with a research postgraduate in Cybernetic Intelligence. In 2001 he started developing software for mobile phones and since then has been involved in handset development projects for Ericsson, Fujitsu, Nokia, Panasonic and Samsung. During this time he’s worked on everything from a GPRS stack, device drivers and a power management server to messaging applications and the code that draws the soft keys. It was while working as a Software Architect for Nokia’s Multimedia business unit, developing their flagship Nseries products, that Mark developed his interest in the multimedia capabilities of Symbian OS. Mark became an Accredited Symbian Developer and a Forum Nokia Champion in 2007.

I can hardly wait to make some of these projects. I like that most of them can be made with easy-to-get materials.

Beware! The author is Swedish and the projects are aimed toward northern gardens and with some materials I've never seen for sale anywhere I've lived. Willow twigs? Chipping hammer? Most of us don't have a welding outfit or a kiln in our toolkit either. A pictorial tools list is included.I'd rate many of these projects as suitable for the fit and moderately experienced DIYer. Many are for the larger yard.Some projects are handsome and seem within my skill level. I liked the Japanese trellis and the pebble compass rose.Be sure this book will apply to your situation before buying.
