A very useful book for trans people who wish to work on their voice as part of their gender expression, but who do not have access to speech therapy or other voice coaching, which can be expensive.

Excellent aid to anyone looking to work on their voice. Simple exercises and very logical, easy to follow process.

Very useful in the process of learning to change your voice to match your gender. It's also, in my opinion, very hard to read, and rather rambling. It took almost half the book before any knowledge was imparted, just rambling for pages about why voice is important.

I received this book as a gift from my mother because she knows my frustration that I do not come across as male over the phone. I'm FTM and can only speak from a binary point of view. I haven't read the entire book yet but there are helpful drawings of proper posture and even anatomical diagrams. From what I can tell so far, this book shows great potential for helping all trans* people with passing. Sure, you may pass appearance-wise and socially, but the prosody of our speech could possibly "break our cover" and be devastating to those who live stealth. I'm glad I got this book.

This is an amazing product to have with you if you are writing APA style papers. It is the condensed version of the full-size APA guideline book. It covers just the major areas that a writer May stumble on. The Binding on it is great also, because you are able to open it to the page you need and it lies completely flat on the table. I would highly recommend this to any college student or person that has to write APA style papers and is concerned with making sure that their paper is 100% correct.• side note, this product is the most up-to-date version of the APA style guidelines. As of 2018.

This book arrived with the first 20 pages of the text missing.

Great resource for college students, or continuing education. I've used it a lot in the last 8 weeks for my first graduate classes. I imagine I'll be using it a lot more in the future. The spiral bound pages make it easier to use because you don't have to hold it open or worry about it snapping closed. It has a comprehensive table of contents in the front, and is easy to navigate. Also, it doesn't just cover citations like I originally though, it also covers format and grammar, so it was a nice surprise. Basically, it's extremely useful and I love it!

This book was okay and provided important information regarding APA style, but it is not worth buying. I bought it during my freshman year in college because I thought I needed it for a class. After the semester, I ended up selling it back, since I found out that most of the APA formatting requirements can be found online from reputable sources (such as Purdue Owl). Unless you would rather have a physical book to reference, I recommend reviewing what APA sources are offered online.

A useful resource for those who want to practice (or learn) effective writing skills. I find it especially helpful when preparing manuscripts for publication, or even letters to the editor of a newspaper. The spiral binding was a great idea!

This is a concise, quick reference guide when writing APA styles papers for college. I still have the full publication manual, too, but this version is easy to carry to and from class and covers enough until dissertation time. At that point, you'll need the full publication manual. Until then, this is the best desk reference book for APA style I've found. I have it highlighted, bookmarked, and have been using it for several years.

Love this product!! Both wife and I are using it for college right now. She working on her Masters and I on my BA. This has so much great knowledge on writing that I wish I had it sooner in my college career.

This is a great guide to the style. However, note that the style itself has many, many rules that do not make sense and are generally very time consuming to learn and apply.

The growing disparity in income and wealth between the richest Americans and “the rest of us” is very much in the news these days, but Nobel-Prize-winning economist Joseph Stigliz has been writing about it for a long time. This book brings together short pieces that appeared in publications such as Vanity Fair and the New York Times warning of the dangers of inequality as long ago as 2007.The book is in nine sections. The first section he calls a Prelude because it discusses the 2007-2008 recession and the response to it that built the background for the increasing inequality seen today. The middle sections contain articles describing the disparity, personal reflections from Stiglitz’s life, dimensions of inequality such as student debt and health care, causes for inequality such as a tax system that favors the elite, and consequences of the inequality. The later sections elaborate on his argument that such inequality is not inevitable but is a political choice and explore the international picture in countries like Japan, Australia, Spain, China, Singapore, Scotland, and even Mauritius. The final section consists of articles in which Stiglitz outlines the kinds of actions America should take to combat inequality. In an Afterword, Vanity Fair editor Cullen Murphy interviews Stiglitz responding to conservative critics who claim that the rich create jobs. Each of the nine sections of the book is preceded by a lengthy introduction providing an overview of the topic of that section.This anthology format has strengths and weaknesses. It allows for the presentation of a broad range of topics relating to inequality, and it is interesting to see how the topics develop over the course of the time period in which the articles were written. On the other hand, since the articles are generally short (Many were op-ed pieces.), readers new to a topic may feel they need for more data or a longer explanation. In addition, because they were written at different times for different publications, there was a great deal of repetition, e.g., Thomas Piketty’s book Capitalism in the Twenty-first Century is discussed at length in at least two of the articles as well as the introduction to Part I.Readers who want in-depth presentation of Stiglitz’s thinking would probably be happier reading one of his other books, such as The Price of Inequality, that contain more data and a more comprehensive exposition of his ideas, but those who want a broad survey or who already admire him and want to hear more from this influential thinker will welcome this book.

This is a collection of articles written by J. Stiglitz, ordered into subject sections, along with introductory and hindsight observations about the material. It is pretty much a dead-on accurate portrayal of the 2008 recession, what caused it, how we haven't fixed the causes, and so on. No doubt it will get fewer stars from those who disagree with the analysis, but you have to be ideologically blind to refuse to see these truths. The one criticism I have is that he is still an apologist for capitalism, as though somehow we might misconceive his point of view as favoring communism or something. He keeps saying we currently have ersatz capitalism, that capitalism is fine as long as it is properly run and regulated. Really. Is there any engine that does not need steering, brakes, accelerators, modulators, or governors? These items are part and parcel of automobiles, power plants, nuclear reactors, and so on. We don't go around saying atomic bombs are fundamentally sound; they just need proper modulation. Trying to separate policy and regulation from capitalism, even if just in the text, is problematic. A useful engine is a holistic thing.

Interesting and persuasive, this series of essays on various economic topics covered such concerns as growing inequality between haves and have nothings, the lack of social mobility, and unequal opportunity. Unfortunately, I read this book after the 2017 election. It seems evident at this point that the theories put forth in this book will be roundly ignored in favor of the old remedies which failed to increase prosperity for the majority 99% So, the inequality seems destined to march on unchecked.

Joseph Stiglitz is a clear thinker and an articulate writer. The message he delivers here about the every widening gap between the very wealthy and everyone else in this country is one that we all must heed. Stigliz makes it clear that the cause of inequality in the United States is not economics, but politics. He cites what needs to be done to correct this, which makes this book even more valuable. "The Great Divide" should be a wake-up call for all of us.

This is a book I wish all my Republican friends (wait a minute...do I have any...let me check) would read. Great book; you really have to wonder why austerity is being tried anywhere...like Stiglitz (and tons of others) say(s), never seems to work. Watch it all happen in Greece, at the moment, and in the U.S. seemingly continuingly. Three cheers for Joseph Stiglitz for being the human being he is!

In depth look at our society and how it became so fractured. Bought for my son who is an Economics Grad. He did not afree with everything said but it was my first foray into this topic so I enjoyed it.

According to Stiglitz it is the policies put in place by our political representatives paid for by corporations and the 1% that maintain our system of engineered inequality. The US has the highest level of inequality of all industrialized countries. Tax cuts for the rich, "the job creators" and "a rising tide lifts all boats" are the big lies that are only now begining to be exposed! How do we turn things around? Invest in the potential of our people and invest in the infrastructure of our nation.

I thought I could read from start to finish but found myself reading one article at a time (the book is a collection of previously published articles). The book focuses on social and economic injustice in the United States from a very high and fully qualified perspective.

The TimeTrack.mdb database that the authors reference throughout this book is not available from the Safari publishing company website. A disk did not come with the book, either. Good luck testing out the code samples. Perhaps, at best, you can cobble it together using another sample databse.If anyone knows where to get the sample database for this book, please let me know! I e-mailed the publisher but did not receive a response. Thanks!

I ordered this manual and it was not apparent from any of the pics or editor's comments, etc. that this was written for the 2003 version of Access. I should have noticed the publishing date (my bad). I haven't gone thru the book yet as I have other books in this order to go thru also, so the content may be fine, just dated.

As far as I can tell, this text is full of useful programming information for working with Access but I have not used much of it. It presumed more knowledge on my part than I actually have. I was able to read over it and get the basic concepts for a fair amount but the actual ability to use the information has not developed. I got the information at the expense of instruction.The biggest problem is the lack of a disk with the examples. Supposedly, you can get the examples over the web but I most often do this type of stuff on the laptop from motel rooms in out of the way places with no or very limited access to the net. For me, that was an unworkable solution.Even if it had included a disk, I don't think I would have liked this text too much because of the explanations. As I mentioned before, they seem to assume a level of knowledge on my part that I do not yet possess. It almost seemed as if I needed to know how to program in VBA before I could learn to program in VBA.On the plus side, the screen shots are not generous in either quantity or size but they are definitely readable. This far surpasses the norm for most computer instruction books in my experience.Others with more experience may well get more out of this book than I did. I plan on keeping it around in the hope that I may grow into it but, as yet, its usefulness has been minimal.

On the Kindle you can change the font size, which is great for me since my eyes aren't that good. The problem is that the illustrations, which are extracts of programs, are all too small and I can't read them.

Great book for providing a comprehensive overview of the value-add of MS Access and some of the practical appliations for which it is used. I would reccomend to anyone that wants to start experimenting with the capabilities of Access.

This is an wonderful MS Access handbook. It includes practical examples on how to use vba and sql to get the most out of your Access app. You won't get bogged down in unnecessary details and analysis.

My practice for the past several years has been to consult the I Ching only when an important decision or problem has been weighing heavily on my mind for a day or so and I'm just not sure what to do. I'll go to the I Ching with a situation like this maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I believe this is a respectable way to use the oracle, and it has been very effective for me. To date, every answer that I have received has been uncannily specific to my question and has shown to be absolutely correct in judgment. It's a little scary to me when I see how well it works...it surprises me every time I do it.I use the yarrow stick method, using sticks that I fashioned from bamboo skewers and keep in a nice wooden "pick up sticks" box, but in a pinch I have used other things like a computer program or even coffee stirrers (if I am at work and can't wait to get home!) I know there are statistical limitations with the yarrow stick method, but I like it because it allows me to focus my thoughts for a longer period of time as I perform the divination.Many years ago when I first learned about the I Ching, I used the Wilhelm interpretation, which always seemed to leave me with more questions and more confusion than I had before I started. I was never sure if I was interpreting it correctly and I was always afraid that my interpretations might be biased by my inner personal desires. Because of that uncertainty, I ended my experimentation with the I Ching until I found the Wu Wei version many years later.I suspect that some "purists" will scoff at the Wu Wei text. I know that the author "Wu Wei" is none other than Chris Prentiss, author of "The Alcohol and Addiction Cure" and other self-help books as well as being the CEO of "Passages" addiction treatment centers. I will admit that the "Wu Wei" pen name troubles me, but putting that aside, I find his version to be so easy to interpret and so meaningful and helpful in my practice that I am willing to set aside any concerns about how or why Chris Prentiss put together this interpretation and just take it at face value. All I know is that it works for me and I will continue to use it as long as it does. I am open to working with other interpretations, but right now I just don't have a lot of time to devote to studying them.My two cents: if you are an I Ching newbie, and are having trouble interpreting the trigrams you might want to give this version a try.BTW I am not affiliated with Chris Prentiss in any way, and I've actually been careful -not- to research him because I don't want to associate him with the text at all and I especially do not want to form any negative connotations that will ruin its effectiveness for me.

The comment made by Jane Day (February 5, 2016) concerning the Location Chart on page 403 is correct in that the page numbers for the trigram "Li" are in error. But ONLY the page numbers, the Kua (Hexagram numbers) are correct. The number for each of the Kua/Hexagrams (1-64) are shown at the top of each page in the book. It is good practice to always verify your Kua pattern when consulting the I Ching. An error in the page number on the Location Chart is no reason to disregard the book as a whole.

It was more on how to actually practice with sticks, less info, was expecting to learn more / get more info on universal laws or answers I guess

I love all of the Wu Wei books no matter what people say about Chris Prentiss, I hope he writes more!

Good read

This is an excellent version. It is clearly understood and contains a section about the superior man at the back. Highly recommended. Life changing if you are ready.

I am new at the I Ching and I love that is available via the kindle app because I always have it with me. The insight in this book is amazing
