This book commands your attention from the very first paragraph where Kyle is a newborn struggling for life with underdeveloped lungs. It holds the reader fully absorbed until the conclusion where Kyle likens his experience as a homosexually inclined male in the church to that of a leper. The story demonstrates that Jesus’ love for the leper never wavers, though that of his bride falls woefully short of that great example often. Kyle is wonderfully transparent. Discussion in the church about this topic remains confused and dangerously shallow. Too many feel that simply declaring that homosexuality is a sin is all that God requires of us, as if that shining truth alone will draw the repentant to salvation. Of course, most of us are drawn to Christ by his kindness, and kindness is what is often most lacking in these discussions. Kyle is continuously drawn closer to Christ by such kindness and gentle discipline, much of which is experienced through his charismatic faith. In his exemplary transparency, we see him aligning his faith with his sexuality and coming to terms with genuine masculinity through various mistakes and corrective responses, from early sexual experimentation with a male friend, to awkward attempts at dating females, a shame-diminishing exercise at a nudist resort, and a regrettable error with a male massage therapist. Kyle is committed to sharing the love he has found in Christ with the LGBT community as in outreaches to the Gay Games.

Impactful, raw, and insightful pages. A must read for the person searching to understand who they are. The author does a good job of connecting with the reader through tangible stories that are very thought-provoking.

"Because of shame, I didn't think I could trust anyone with my secret. I was all alone in my struggle, left with no support, love or help. I was lost and I was stumbling."Sharing how he, the author, was born three months premature, I was immediately drawn into Kyle's story as our third son was also born twelve weeks early. Through God's grace, death was not allowed to get a grip on Kyle's life although it came pretty close. (Our son's fit and healthy also.) Kyle was a miracle, having defied medical odds. This was the start of being different, a feeling Kyle had as far back as he can remember.Brought up in a home that never talked about sexuality, Kyle felt very much alone. He knew what the Bible says about homosexuality and yet he was still deeply attracted to males and had no desire to date a girl. During his four years of college he led a total double life and no one knew. Guy #1 was the pianist, worship leader etc. Guy #2 was the liar, manipulator, driven by lust to hook up with other men. Through all this "God still faithfully revealed His light to" Kyle.I LOVED the next part of Kyle's story. Here's Kyle, brought up as a Southern Baptist, attending a Baptist college, meeting up with some charismatic college folks and getting baptized in the Holy Spirit. Hee! This was the first major moment of God's life. What was the second? Kyle graduated college with a degree in church music and then was ordained as a pastor.Alas that old "friend" Rejection that Kyle had keenly felt from an early age was soon to rear its ugly head again, this time by a senior pastor. The wound that Kyle had fought so valiantly to keep covered burst open. Kyle had to learn to forgive himself as well as others. Who did God bring into his life to start the true healing process?Read this insightful, sometimes heart wrenching, raw life story of someone who still has a lot of life left to live. Like Kyle says in his book, "When I think about being human and not doing things perfectly, I can't help but also think about King David. How would you like to have all your failures (and victories) recorded for everyone to see into? This man's life is to be read about in scripture .....forever. Yet, this gives me encouragement because I know I'm not alone at still figuring this life out."i'm going to be bold in saying that this book should be in the library of ALL churches. It is a VITAL read for all Christians to understand men like Kyle, the struggles they have been through, along with the healing and victories that can and have been won. Kyle admits his needs in this book. Some people didn't understand but thankfully there were/are some that did/do and have thus been very instrumental in Kyle's healing. Of course none of this would have been possible without God's healing touch as well.I was provided a copy of this book by the author. That has not influenced my review, the above thoughts and observations of which are my own. There were some very minor editing issues that I encountered but nothing major. Read this book and be challenged, be it that you are one struggling like Kyle or one that is looking in from the outside wondering how to pray/help someone you know etc. Thanks, Liz

I was really blessed by this book. I got a copy of the book early and got a chance to read it. This book his about the author life. He give us some enlightenment on ways that Jesus Christ has helped him through it all. The book gives some skills on how to and live with SSA and stand in the word of God. Have recently been on my own journey of dealing with SSA thought a biblical stand and have been able to find a few men of God that have been able to show me the way of righteousness and stand. This is another book that has given me more skills to get though this. For all those men who struggle with SSA, this is a great book that you should read. - Travis McQueen

I was blessed to receive an advanced copy of this wonderful new memoir by the author himself. It is his first piece and a very straightforward, informative and enlightening read. I truly loved getting to know the heart of the author. It's a lost art to find a memoir that isn't full of senseless storytelling. Kyle takes us on a journey of his life and introduces us to the depths of Christ in all of it.
