This book blew me away! This is a huge, heavy book and the photographs are anchored in a global environmental framework!Coupled with the maps and text, David teaches us to see the souls of these creatures.Like learning to see all over again!

Absolutely amazing. We learned of Mr. Yarrow and his book at Wonders of Wildlife, at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO, where they have several of these photos printed incredibly large, hanging on the walls. We are thankful to have this book and the amazing images of nature Mr. Yarrow captured... they show the amazing beauty of God's Creation... lions, tigers, bears, pandas, elephants, giraffes... and people, too... and this supports Tusk and their conservation effort. Definitely valuable! Thank you.

I love this book and always keep it open on my dinning room table.... a different picture every day. My grandchildren want to choose when they are over for dinner or a swim.I saw some of these photos at a gallery in Dallas and the book is a second best if you can not have the real thing. "In real life" they are huge and even more impressive.

If you've been diagnosed with lyme disease in the United States, it's likely that you will have to fight to get the right treatment. Knowledge is your best defense, so protect yourself by reading this book.It is a better resource than the mess of online articles and panicking people on lyme boards, and it's not hard for me to say that if you read it, you'll know a LOT more than your current doctor.I was very lucky to have it recommended to me, and it was invaluable for getting the right antibiotics. I'm so much better than I was, it feels like a miracle.It's not long, or a hard read, and although it's older, it has all the information on the bacteria, it's stages, and current antibiotic options. Online videos and internet searches for doctors are a helpful resource supplement. Good luck, I wish you the best of health.

While tent-camping on 5/2/09, my husband woke up with a tick embedded on his right arm. Now, we were in south central Texas and I know ticks are fairly common, but I also know they can carry Lyme disease and other "bugs" that aren't good for humans. I'm a nurse, but my skills for tick removal were long ago and far away. I said to my husband, "I sure could use my laptop right now". But, what DID I have with me??? I had my Kindle2!! I did a search for "ticks" and found this book and downloaded the sample. From that sample and the published table of contents, I could see the book had everything in it we needed, from identifying the bugger, to telling exactly how to remove it and how to "save" it so it could be tested. I purchased the book and within minutes, I was able to use the tweezers from my makeup bag to remove the entire tick! We placed the tick on a piece of scotch tape, folded it over to "seal" it in and we took the "saved" tick to the State Park Ranger station to let them know. They gave us the info we needed to mail the tick for "FREE" identification and testing to see what if anything it may have been carrying!Thank you so much for making what could have been a very scary day, something alot less traumatic. No results on the tick yet, but will post them when they arrive!! Thanks again!****UPDATE****6/19/2010 So sorry for the extreme lag time w/this update, but the tick was negative! Thank goodness. I also learned the book was SPOT ON with the type of tick it was, as well.Signed,Still a very pleased Kindle customer! :-)

First, if you are looking up Lyme disease information, I'm terribly sorry for your diagnosis. But, the good news is that this book is comprehensive and very easy to read. I read it front to back and found it informative.

I have had Lyme for a number of years and this book still taught me an enormous amount about Lyme. I recommend this to everyone. Chances are you or someone you love may be living a sad existence and not ever even looked into Lyme. Like so many others my Dr said I was cured with 3 weeks of antibiotics. Reading so many other stories & facts has helped me immensely

I bought this book after a friend was diagnosed with Lyme disease. She found it helpful and reassuring about many aspects of how to understand and deal with this possibly debilitating disease.

Leonardo Da Vinci in 30 Seconds is an informative children’s book that not only introduces them to the great artist who painted the Mona Lisa, but also Leonardo the inventor, mathematician, sculpture, etc.The book is split into sections regarding different eras of Leonardo’s life. Each section begins with a glossary of words to help children fully understand the information. Starting with his early life, the book explains how he was born in a place called Vinci, near Florence and was an illegitimate child, so he wasn’t allowed to attend university, nor work in certain professions. His father found him work as an apprentice for the artist Andrea Del Verrocchio. This is where he discovered he was a talented artist.Throughout the book children get to learn not only about Leonardo’s life, but also his work in the different fields. They will also get to learn about how historians know so much about him, even though there isn’t much left of his work. This book truly is a fascinating read.Children will be amazed that a man who lived so long ago (1452-1519) had some ideas for inventions that were built many years later, such as the helicopter, tank, parachute.This is a great book that’s not only informative, but each page is surrounded by superb illustrations. Some of the pages also provide small tasks for the children to do, such as Make a Self-Powered Vehicle.The only tiny little issue I had with the book is with the title. It takes longer than 30 seconds to read each page – I know, I timed myself (yes, I’m that sad). My fastest page read was 39 seconds. For a child to truly take the information in they need to read slowly, to help them absorb the information and for their brains to process it. I do understand about the title being catchy, but in my personal opinion it isn’t strictly accurate. I thought this was a very well written book and it definitely deserves a place in my classroom library. I enjoyed the graphics that went along with the text and thought that kids would enjoy them too. I also like that they included a section with the vocabulary that might not be familiar to kids.I will say that I timed myself reading one of the pages and it took me about 40 sec to read it. I'm a pretty fast reader so I don't think that kids, who this book is intended for, could read it in 30 sec.

I actually really loved this book, enough so that I showed my husband and even he was intrigued and said we needed to go buy it.This is such a clever way to teach children about people in history, not only are the pages quick to read there are fun things to try. I loved the glossary provided before each section so that definitions to keywords are provided. Highly recommend!

I like to think I’m a pretty good handy women, and I was looking for ideas for this summer to start my backyard oasis. This book had so many great ideas with illustrated pictures and step by stepInstructions. I’m very pleased with this purchase.

We are renovating our house instead of listing it and buying a turnkey house because no house has all our wants. One of them is an easy to maintain beautiful backyard. I didn’t know where to start. First we thought of a pool and patio. Until I read this book. Now I have a lot of things in my mind that none of the houses we looked at have. It’s like expanding our 1800 square foot house to still 1800 square foot but additional 3000 square foot of liveable backyard space. Very nice book.

You would think "Outdoor Builder" would be full of diy projects. Instead, this book is way too heavy on instructions on how to assemble their kits! Only the minor projects are from scratch.

Very well laid out. Easy to read instructions on tons of outdoor ideas.

This was 4 dollars. This is so short it should be a free brochure. and over half the book is commands. if i wanted commands would have asked. This book is a complete waste of time. if you want a server, i would'nt buy a four dollar brochure with spelling errors and other stuff.

I thought this would tell you how to MAINTAIN a server. All it tells you where to get the software (every experienced player knows where to get the software) for the server. then it starts talking about singleplayer commands. If you are wondering why this book is 86 pages, its because they wrote in a HUGE font size. it was so big, there were only 4 words on 1 page. this should not be called how to run and maintain a server. it should be called "Minecraft - Singleplayer Commands 1.8" This book shoulx also be free. dont pay for this. if the author used the default font size, this book would of been 20-30 pages long. Piece of crap! :(

I imagine I'm going to get unhelpful votes by saying this, but this biography was not up to par with the author's other biographies. I've read Titan, which I thought was great, House of Morgan, which was really good, and Hamilton, which was also good, and this book just isn't up to those other books.The beginning was very frustrating because we learn about this supposedly very successful and widely acclaimed and established German banking family, yet there is practically nothing concerning how they got to be well known and exceedingly wealthy, nor what their business dealings were at the time. And this lack of information goes on and on, focusing almost to exclusion on inter-personal issues.Looking up the Warburgs in Wikipedia, I learned that the family had been a very successful banking family from the 1600's back in Venice, even before they settled in Warburg, Germany. Starting the narrative in the mid to late 1800's with the success of Jews in what was to become Germany just left me hanging and feeling like I was missing a large part of who the Warburgs were and how they got that way.Additionally, the family had been around for a very long time and there are scattered references to visiting or staying with uncles and aunts, but the overall breadth of the family is not addressed.Thinking about his problem now, it almost would make more sense and read better if there was a short intro and perhaps 10 separate bios on separate family members, instead of skipping around. It would help the flow. I have a feeling the author's inability to read German or Swedish or other European languages and his lack of primary research in Europe, where the Warburgs achieved fame and fortune, contributed to this incomplete biography.On the other hand, it appears that not much had been written on the Warburgs prior to this book (at least in English), and that is why I read the book. Additionally, the whole build up to the Holocaust and how the Warburgs kept their warm feelings for Germany throughout the experience, as a constant theme, was very interesting and well done, especially since I'm Jewish. The reading got more focused and poignant the closer the Holocaust got and immediately afterwards.3 or 3.5 stars is probably the best score, but will upgrade so I don't get canned too badly. If you're interested in the Warburg it's a good starter book, though I imagine if this weren't one of the first books Chernow wrote, he would have done a better job as a more mature and accomplished biographer.

Ron Chernow’s best book ... unpacks Nazi rhetoric and makes it relevant to today. While I read his other books, honestly this book was far more impactful. I realized how little I knew about specific families and citizens in Germany during the rise of the Third Reich. While the Warburg family was extremely wealthy and atypical, they were very savvy yet still were very aligned to country which caused them to underestimate what was happening in Germany. I love to read about US leaders, but by reading this, realized I need to get out of US history and into global history. Also, while the Warburg brothers were the main focus, I appreciated focus and development of the important woman in the narrative.

While less well known than his later biographies of George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, this book stands equal to them. Rather than a biography of a single man this is the biography of a most extraordinary family and their impact on banking and the history of the twentieth century. This is a terrific book and one that I recommend without reservation. Chernow tells a very complex story in the tradition of a great novelist, without sacrificing any of the historical details that define the picture of a family whose story mirrors the triumphs and tragedies of the 20th century.The book traces the history of the Warburg family from the 16th century to the 1990's, with the emphasis on the 20th century. The story is told through the biographies of many of its members, focusing on the brothers Aby, Max, Paul, Felix and Fritz, their sons and nephews. Individual chapters cover individuals, interwoven and progressing through the 20th century. There is the scholarly eldest brother, Aby, who exchanged his birthright for the promise of being provided all the books he desired (and created one of the world's greatest private libraries), the next eldest brother Max who autocratically ran the familie's Hamburg bank, the next brother Paul who made his mark in the US (providing the banking expertise behind his idea for the US Federal Reserve System), Felix who also made his mark in the US (both as a banker, but even more so as a philanthropist) and on to the youngest Fritz who served in both the Prussian and American Armies, and eventually fought to revive the Warburg position as preeminent Hamburg bankers. The book follows these brothers and their nephew Sigmund who made his mark in the US, in Great Britain (becoming Sir Sigmund) and in Europe after WWII. The book also discusses the sons of these brothers, their wives and other relatives. Fortunately, there are several pages of genealogy charts which help in keeping all the relationships between family member straight and many photographs that help flesh out the many stories that are discussed.Were the book just about the history of the family members it would have been very good, but it is about much more. The book is about the turmoil of 20th century Germany, about how this family suffered and recovered. It is about family members who were loyal to their adopted homes in the US and Great Britain, but still, before the 1930's, had strong emotional ties to Germany. It tries to explain how some in the family still had warm feeling for Germany, in spite of what happened to them in the 1930's. It is about how Fritz left his comfortable life in the US to return to Germany to reestablish their stolen Hamburg bank, but also to serve as a bridge between Germany and the rest of the post-WWII world. It is about strong men with sons who often failed to live up to their high expectations. It is about loyalty, deceit, struggle, success and failure. It is a cautionary tail about the evolution of 20th century politics and war, as well as about banking. In short this is a terrific book.

This multi-generational history of the Warburg banking dynasty, though not as riveting as Chernow's biographies of Rockefeller, Washington, and Hamilton, is definitely worth reading. In addition to the interesting, and often quirky, family members, one gets a very good sense of how assimilated the German Jews had become by the beginning of the twentieth century. And not only assimilated, but extremely successful, and integrated into the business and banking world, not only in Germany, but in America as well. The very detailed account of what was going on not only in the Warburg banking world, but also in their psyches, goes far to answer the question of why so many Jews refused to see the holocaust coming and leave the country. It documents well what Germany was like for wealthy Jewish families, up until some years into the 20th century, what it was in the national psyche that made the time ripe for Hitler, and the continued resistance of FDR to help the German Jews. I give The Warburgs three, rather than four, stars only by comparison with Chernow's other superb, page-turning biographies.
